Esure: Travel insurance a must for skiers

Esure Travel Insurance has issued a warning to skiers trying to cut costs on their cover.

In a poll conducted by the insurance provider, 18 per cent of respondents admitted that they would not buy travel insurance in order to reduce the cost of the holiday.

Mike Pickard, head of travel insurance at esure, said that while there may be a "greater temptation" not to buy insurance, winter sports carry a degree of risk and ensuring proper protection is "crucial".

He warned that lesser known ski destinations such as Poland might be cheaper to go to but the medical and rescue facilities there are not likely to be as high in quality as they are at more established resorts.

Earlier this week, esure also warned people to make sure they are properly insured ahead of Bonfire Night.

Homeowners who have a few friends over could face a personal liability claim if someone is injured or property is damaged, as they have a legal requirement to fulfil a "duty of care".
